Belagavi: Following a spike in Corona cases and the increasing threat posed by the Omicron variant in Maharashtra and Mumbai in particular, instructions have been issued to officials to maintain a strict vigil in the border districts as the region has high business interaction with Mumbai, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Bommai said only those who have been double vaccinated and have a RTPCR negative report will be allowed to enter the state. Not only the Belagavi check post, other check posts too have been asked to tighten measures. About 11 check posts have been put up in Vijayapura and though these measures would cause inconvenience to passengers, they are inevitable to safeguard people’s health, he said. The CM also said that a decision on extending the night curfew, would be taken after discussing the Covid situation. When asked if a lock-down would be imposed if people neglect guidelines, he said the government is clear on this count; People should avoid creating a situation that compels the government to impose a lockdown.
