Son killed in a fight between parents

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A 25-year-old techie was killed by his father after he attempted to stop a fight between his parents at their house in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Yeshwanth Kumar, a software engineer employed at a private firm in Bengaluru. The family resides at Jaraganahalli and the incident took place around 9 am on Wednesday.

It is learnt that Kumar’s father Basavaraju works as a truck driver. The Puttenahalli police, who are investigating the case, said that Kumar’s parents often used to engage in heated debates and ugly fights over domestic issues.

A similar argument ensued early on Wednesday, following which Kumar’s parents began fighting with each other again. Kumar, who was at home, heard his parents fighting and attempted to pacify them.

Enraged at his son’s intervention, Basavaraju took a knife from the kitchen and threatened Kumar. During the scuffle, Basavaraju allegedly plunged the knife into Kumar’s chest injuring him severely.

As Kumar began losing a lot of blood, Basavaraju, coming back to his senses, rushed him to a hospital where Kumar died without responding to treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru South, Lokesh Jagalasar said that Kumar’s grandmother is bedridden and his parents were arguing over taking care of her.

“Prima facie it appears that the incident took place when Kumar was trying to pacify his parents. His father got angry over Kumar’s intervention and a scuffle ensued between them during which the father brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his son,” the DCP said.

Puttenahalli police have taken up a murder case and are investigating the matter further. Meanwhile, the body was shifted to Kempegowda Hospital in the city.
