Army leads the way with 'massive' tree planting drive
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a watershed moment, the Indian Army,co-ordinating with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and an NGO led a large scale tree planting drive at the Banaswadi Military Station on the occasion of World Environment Day recently.
Army personnel and their families came together to plant over 2000 saplings within the military station premises. Not only this act contributed to increasing the green cover but also gave participants a sense of environmental stewardship.
The Army's commitment to environmental protection was further underscored by the involvement of the 'Grow Billion Trees' NGO, which digitally mapped the entire plantation area.
Mapping will help in monitoring the growth and progress of the planted saplings, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the initiative.
Addressing the gathering, the Garrison Commander stressed the Indian Army's drift towards sustainable practices, and championing environmental conservation efforts.
