Chelsea & Liverpool share spoils in breathless classic
Chelsea came from two goals down to earn a draw with Liverpool in a Stamford Bridge classic - a result that only strengthens Manchester City’s stranglehold on the Premier League title race.
Liverpool looked to be cruising early with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah staking it out to a 2-0 lead after just 16 minutes, exposing the Chelsea defense on both goals. But the home team mounted an improbable comeback with a spectacular Mateo Kovacic volley proving the spark. A Christian Pulisic strike in transition completed the comeback just before the halftime whistle.
City’s lead now stands at 10 points from Chelsea with Liverpool a point further back, albeit with a game in hand. But Chelsea have now won just one of their last five league games, while Liverpool have taken just two points from their last three matches to allow City to streak towards a fourth title in five seasons.
