Frame ‘pro-student’ curriculum, student org tells SEP committee
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) handed over a memorandum to the State Education Policy (SEP) Committee in Bengaluru University, appealing for a “pro-student” curriculum.
State Education Policy Commission, Karnataka State Board of Higher Education and Bangalore University organized a departmental level workshop on Curriculum Design and Structure at Bangalore University’s HN auditorium.
A delegation led by AIDSO state vice president Apoorva participated in this meeting. “The condition of government colleges is pathetic. A serious situation has arisen where even if they get a day's leave, students go looking for work. On the other hand, there is a shortage of permanent teachers in government colleges. College campuses lack a study environment,” Apoorva said.
“The curriculum should be designed with subjects that engage the students in deep learning and uphold the values of great people. Confusion and problems created during the academic year should be rectified immediately. Students are facing many problems due to the UUCMS (Unified University and College Management System) portal and we requested that it be cancelled and that we revert to the old method,” she said, adding that apart from skills, education should also impart “values”.
The memorandum was submitted to SEP committee members and Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr Jaikar requesting that the State Education Policy Commission consider their demands.
