Metro's first driverless train nears signalling integration
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The inaugural driverless train for Bengaluru's metro, set for deployment on the Yellow Line, is nearing testing for integration with the signalling system.
On February 14, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) took delivery of the first batch of six coaches from China, now undergoing various tests at the Hebbagodi metro depot. Officials highlight that signalling tests are crucial among the array of assessments for these new trains.
"Given the novelty of this rolling stock, extensive testing is imperative. Presently, the coaches are undergoing static and electrical circuit assessments. Soon, they'll advance to mainline testing, incorporating the signalling system," explained a senior BMRCL official as per reports.
With 37 tests already completed, forthcoming examinations will concentrate on system integration with signalling, telecommunications, and power supply.
Scheduled statutory safety tests include oscillation trials by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
Following recommendations from RDSO and CMRS, approval from the Railway Board is necessary before the train can commence revenue service.
The Yellow Line, spanning 18.82 km and slated for completion by yearend, aims to connect RV Road station with Bommasandra. It comprises 16 stations, fully elevated, linking with the Green Line at RV Road station and the Pink Line at Jayadeva Hospital station.
Notably, the line includes a metrocum-road flyover from Ragi Gudda to Central Silk Board, spanning 3.13 km, designed to alleviate congestion at the Central Silk Board junction.
It incorporates five loops and ramps, extending the double-decker flyover towards K.R. Puram and Hosur Road, both in advanced construction stages.
The primary objective of the Yellow Line is to enhance connectivity to key areas housing major IT and biotech companies like Infosys and Biocon, as well asSouth Bengaluru.
