Man murders acquaintance, dismembers, dumps body in river

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a horrific murder case, a man allegedly brutally killed his acquaintance by striking him on the head with an iron rod, dismembered his body, packed the pieces into bags, and discarded them in the Pinakini River near Bellathur.

The incident unfolded during the intervening night of May 28 and 29 but only came to light following the apprehension of the accused. Presently, police are scouring the Pinakini River in pursuit of the victim's remains.

The deceased, identified as K V Srinath (34), held the position of development officer at Margadarsi Chit Funds.

He had known the accused, Madhav Rao, for two years, but their relationship soured due to a disagreement over the latter's failure to repay Rs 5 lakh owed to the chit fund. Additionally, allegations surfaced regarding an extramarital affair between Srinath and Madhav Rao's wife.

On May 28, Srinath left for work but never returned. The following day, his spouse filed a missing person report with the Sampigehalli police.

Subsequent investigations, including CCTV footage analysis, indicated Srinath's visit to Madhav Rao's residence in Vijinapura, K R Pura, on May 28. However, there was no evidence of his departure from the premises.

Further inquiry revealed Madhav Rao's absence, alongside bloodstains discovered within his residence. Eventually located in Andhra Pradesh, Madhav Rao was apprehended by authorities. During interrogation, Madhav Rao confessed that on May 28, a heated argument erupted between him and Srinath regarding the outstanding chit fund payment.

Enraged, Madhav Rao fatally struck Srinath with a jack rod before dismembering his body. The case has since been transferred to the Ramamurthy Nagar police, who are engaged in locating the victim's remains.
