Nisar Ahmed appointed as new Minority Commission chairman
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer Nisar Ahmed was named the chairman of the Karnataka Minority Commission, Hajj and Waqf Departments.
He replaced Abdul Aziz in the post. Nisar, a Ballari native, had served as an Inspector General of Police (IGP) before retiring in 2012.
“The (State) government has given me the responsibility of the chairman of the minority commission. I was given the responsibility by the CM, several ministers and MLAs. Our job is to unite the minorities under the accepted boundaries. It has to be recognized that Muslims are the not only (religious) minority. There are some eight to 10 minorities. Our intention is to bring them all on the same platform, unite them and work for them. Instead of just making claims, we’ll let our work do the talking,” Nisar told mediapersons.
Two more IAS officers were given additional responsibilities. Manjunath Prasad N is no longer the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) to Cooperation Department and is being replaced by Ajay Nagabhushan MN, who is also the Secretary to the Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Sciences and Fisheries Department.
Manjunath is now the ACS to three departments namely Forest, Ecology and Environment, Youth Empowerment and Sports besides Scheduled Tribes Welfare.
