
BMTC offers free travel for SSLC students during exam
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a move to support students during the SSLC exams, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced free travel facilities for such students from their residences to examination centres.
This initiative is aimed at easing the transportation burden on students during exam days. From June 14 to June 22, 2024, on the dates of the SSLC exams, BMTC will provide complimentary travel in ordinary bus services to students on presentation of their exam hall/ admission ticket.
All scheduled trips will be operational on exam dates, with additional trips arranged based on demand. Request stops near examination centres will also be facilitated for students’ convenience.
In addition to facilitating student travel, BMTC has intensified ticket-checking efforts to curb ticketless travel by passengers.
In April 2024, BMTC staff checked 19,146 trips and penalised 3,924 ticketless passengers, collecting Rs. 7,95,540 in penalties.
Moreover, 489 male passengers occupying seats exclusively reserved for female passengers were fined Rs. 48,900 in accordance with KMV Rules 94 r/w section 177 of the MV Act 1988.
Overall, 4,413 passengers were penalised in April 2024, with Rs. 8,44,440 collected in penalties. Passengers are urged to purchase tickets or passes to avoid penalties and ensure smoother operations for BMTC, said a release.
