
IISc leads environmental awareness drive at girls' school
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The World Environment Day celebrations at a Girls' High School in Nagarbhavi on Monday, saw the Indian Institute of Science, Department of Center for Environmental Sciences (IISC, CES Dept.), launching an initiative to nurture environmental consciousness.
Spearheaded by Dr TV Ramachandra and his team of researchers, the event marked a significant milestone in promoting sustainable practices and fostering a deeper understanding of environmental dynamics.
The event's focal point was unveiling a comprehensive conservation blueprint tailored specifically for Bangalore Girls' High School.
This blueprint emphasised the preservation of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems while integrating the latest environmental models and technologies.
Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, students gained valuable insights into crucial topics such as soil and water management, GIS, remote sensing, and solid waste management.
Vrijulal, Founder of Foundation for Education & Research in Nature Science & Sustainability shared insights on bird identification and conservation, while Tulika Mandal demonstrated the potential of leveraging technology, specifically with the use of Google Earth Pro app, for accessing diverse environmental information.
