BTP registers 525 cases for wrong-side driving, tampered number plate

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) on Wednesday said that they have booked 284 cases against motorists who were caught driving on the wrong-side of oneways in the West division of the city.

"Driving on the wrong side has become a fashion in Bengaluru as people are concerned of wanting to reach their destination quickly. However, in doing so, they are endangering people coming from the opposite direction," said an official from the Traffic Managment Centre.

At several junctions, the motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, are taking full advantage of the absence of a traffic police, to engage in a traffic offence. Most riders, while breaking the rules, either ignore the fact that they are being captured by the high-tech cameras or are completely unaware of the cameras.

Apart from wrong-side driving, the police also have registered cases against motorists for tampering their registration number plates.

"We have booked 241 cases against various types of vehicle owners for using vehicles with defective number plates," the official added further.

The action was taken based on complaints that the traffic police department had received through various social media handles recently.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police has urged the vehicle owners and drivers in the city to strictly follow the traffic rules. The police also assured that crack down on vehicles involved in traffic offences will continue.
