65-yr-old Dalit paraded with garland of shoes in UP
Kaushambi: In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage, a 65-year-old Dalit man was publicly humiliated and paraded around his village with a garland of shoes around his neck.
The incident took place in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, and has been attributed to the upper caste village head’s husband and his associates.
Eyewitnesses report that the elderly man was forcibly taken from his home and subjected to degrading treatment as villagers watched.
The perpetrators, allegedly led by the husband of the village head, are accused of orchestrating the act to intimidate and shame the victim publicly.
“This is an abhorrent violation of human dignity and justice. Such acts cannot be tolerated in a civilized society,” said a spokesperson from a prominent human rights group.
Political leaders and activists have demanded swift justice and greater measures to protect marginalized communities in Uttar Pradesh. (PTI)
