No parking within 1km radius of Gandhinagar: DyCM DKS
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: After the inauguration of the long awaited Multi Level Parking System on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar announced a ban on parking in the Gandhinagar area, in a push to enable people use the space.
Three years after its construction, the parking complex was thrown open near Freedom Park at Gandhinagar. It took Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) eight tenders to find a firm to manage the complex.
Kegneri based Prince Royal Business Solutions acquired the rights, and will pay Rs. 1.55 crore to the Palike. Parking on major and minor roads within a 1 kilometre radius from the complex is fully prohibited.
“This will help all businesses. The parking complex here charges only Rs. 20 an hour, in addition to its free pick and drop facility for government offices,” he added.
Shivakumar also hinted at constructing doubledecker flyovers, along with metro lines. “This will reduce the burden of acquiring private property. All the upcoming metro lines with an elevated stretch will feature a flyover below it,” he said.
Will consult public on new advertising policy: DKS
Shivakumar, at a meeting with officials of the BBMP, said that the draft of the new advertisement policy will be made available to the public to offer objections and suggestions in a week.
"15 days time will be given to submit objections. The advertisement policy was pending for the last one year due to cases in court,” he said.
A 'group package' will be prepared and roads wider than 60 feet will feature advertisements, both on government and private buildings. Private entities can pay the rent to BBMP, it is learnt. Guidelines for the quality of the material used for advertising will be issued later.
Permission under the Public Private Model given by the previous administration will be retained after legal discussions.
