Cops to step up war against drug abuse, trafficking

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru police is set to host an event on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Kanteerava Stadium in the city on Wednesday.

"Drug abuse and illicit trafficking continue to pose a significant threat to individuals, families and communities. To combat this evil, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on June 26 every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse," Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said.

Every year on June 26, World Drug Day is recognised to highlight the health challenges related to drug abuse and encourage combating measures like prevention, education, treatment and rehabilitation.

The Bengaluru top cop further said that the City Police has collaborated with various educational institutions for the event.

"Nearly 4,000 college students are likely to participate by partaking in various creative activities including mime acts, skits, quizzes and an awareness marathon," Dayananda added.
