Council seat bypoll on July 12
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A by-poll will be held on July 12 for the Council seat vacated by former chief minister Jagadish Shettar. His term was set to expire on June 14, 2028 but he quit on January 25.
One can file nominations for the by-poll starting Tuesday and the last date for the same is July 2. Last date for withdrawal of nomination is July 5. Results will be out on July 12, which is also the polling day.
Shettar had come over to the Congress in 2023 in the lead up to Karnataka Assembly elections. He had been denied a ticket by the BJP from the seat where he was the incumbent (Hubballi-Dharwad Central). The ticket instead went to Mahesh Tenginkai.
Shettar contested on a Congress ticket and lost to Tenginkai. However, the former CM had brought over a lot of support from his Banajiga-Lingayat community.
