Eager to become an 'internet star', youth lands into police net

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In an attempt to become a social media influencer, a 26-year-old man landed into the police net for allegedly flaunting fake firearms, luxury cars, armed bodyguards and extravagant gold jewellery in his reels.

The young man hailing from Chitradurga was identified as Arun Katare. It was found that he had been posting pictures and reels while brandishing fake jewellery, AK-47 guns and bodyguards all the while creating a nuisance and public panic on Bengaluru roads.

He is known for making reels with young women, luxury cars and bikes at tourist places. Based on a complaint, the city police had been closely monitoring Katare's activities on social media and tracked him.

After his interrogation, the police monitoring rowdy elements, filed a case against Katare for creating panic with the fake gun and arrested him under the Arms Act and Section 290 of IPC (now Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).

After arresting Arun Katare, Bengaluru city police posted a cheeky tweet on its official X handle, saying, "Bengaluru City Police doesn't just watch; we act." The police also shared a video showcasing how likes can turn into cuffs.
