Brace for 10 more days of traffic snarls at Peenya

Bengaluru: Motorists using the Peenya Elevate flyover will have to put up with traffic snarls for 10 more days, following the extension of the deadline.
The fly-over has been shut since December 25, last year to repair the damaged cables between pillar number 102 and 103. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is carrying out the repairs.
Initially the authorities had said the flyover will remain shut for a week. But now they have sought additional time to check whether there is any cable damage in other parts of the bridge.
Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic West told NT, “The repair work will take another 10 days and the motorists will have to bear with it.” When the elevated fly-over was shut on December 25, the DCP had said that out of the 10 cables used between the two pillars, three were damaged.
In order to prevent further damage and carry out speedy repairs, the flyover will remain shut for 10 more days. Ever since the flyover was shut, Bengaluru-Tumakuru Road has been witnessing traffic jams. This flyover provides a vital link to 20 districts of Karnataka and North Indian states.
