77 prisoners released for exhibiting good conduct
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Seventy-seven life convicts lodged in various prisons across Karnataka were released on Tuesday before the expiry of their jail term on the basis of their good conduct. The action was taken on the basis of the order issued by the Karnataka government and by obtaining the necessary permission from State Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot.
To mark the event, state Home Minister Parameshwara, Bengaluru police commissioner and other authorities held a programme at the Parappana Agrahara Prison on Hosa Road.
Speaking to media persons, Home Minister Parameshwara announced that beginning from this year, prisoners serving life sentences and having completed 14 years of jail term will be released in three batches instead of two in a year, on the basis of conduct they exhibit.
Earlier, such prisoners were released twice a year, on Independence Day and on Republic Day. The convicts from other prisons were brought to Bengaluru and were released at the completion of the programme.
