
Housekeeper arrested for Rs 35 lakh gold heist
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a significant breakthrough, Kengeri police have arrested a domestic worker for the theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh from a residence in Vinayaka Layout, Kodipalya.
The incident was reported on July 25, 2023, when the complainant discovered that 583 grams of gold jewellery were missing from a locker in his home. Suspicion immediately fell on Sharadamma, the housekeeper, leading to the registration of a theft case.
The police detained and questioned Sharadamma on August 2, 2023, but she denied any involvement in the theft. Despite her denial, the investigation continued, and she was re-arrested on February 15, 2024.
She underwent a polygraph test and forensic examination on February 22 and 23. Based on the forensic report, Sharadamma was taken into custody again on July 12, 2024.
The police seized 583 grams of gold jewellery from her residence. Sharadamma was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
The successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore City, West, S Girish and Assistant Commissioner, Kengeri Subdivision Basavaraja A Teli, with Kengeri Station Inspector HB Sanjive Gowda leading the team.
