7th pay panel decision applauded by transport unions
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation Mazdoor Sangh and Bengaluru and Karnataka Road Transport Mazdoor Sangh have appreciated the state government's decision to implement the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations, effective from August 1.
This decision, announced during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, promises a substantial 27.5% increase in salaries for state government employees.
At a Press Club gathering on Thursday, both unions highlighted its positive impact on the livelihoods of lakhs of state employees. The unions also emphasized the importance of addressing outstanding issues affecting transport workers, particularly those involved in the Shakti Yojana project.
They called for a comprehensive salary revision effective January 1, and urged the prompt settlement of arrears dating back to January 1, 2020. Additionally, retired employees are awaiting gratuity payments and arrears from 2023.
Despite the successes of the Shakti Yojana initiative, transport workers have faced challenges, including adverse weather conditions and insufficient compensation for their dedicated service.
The unions stressed the urgent need for these issues to be addressed promptly in ongoing discussions.
