Does not appear to be dog meat, awaiting report, says official
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Twelve persons, who hold a licence to sell meat in the city, were summoned by the commissioner of the Food department on Saturday after allegations of transporting dog meat from Rajasthan surfaced late on Friday.
The 12 are supposed to possess a licence from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Failing to honour the summons may cost these individuals their licence, according to the department.
This comes after 90 boxes of 400 kilograms of meat, allegedly that of dogs, was transported under the guise of it being mutton. Commissioner Srinivas of the department said the meat does not appear to be dog meat.
“However, we’re awaiting the report on Monday,” he said. Three FIRs have been filed in the Cottonpet Police Station regarding this, one of them against self-styled cow vigilante Puneet Kerehalli.
