Harassment of cabbies by auto drivers sparks outrage
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A troubling incident unfolded in Bengaluru when an Uber bike rider and his passenger, who had arranged a trip using the app, were harassed by local autorickshaw drivers recently.
A video of the incident went viral, highlighting the issue of customers being harassed for choosing appbased transportation. The video, posted on July 25, shows autorickshaw drivers scolding the passenger, grabbing his backpack, and insisting that he cancel his ride.
The incident reportedly took place near the Indiranagar Metro Station. In the video, the passenger can be heard saying, “Why are you harassing this person? Let me go. If people want to take an Uber, they will take Uber; if people want to take an auto, they will take an auto. If you want to go to the police station, it’s right here.”
The video captures threats and mistreatment directed at the Uber bike driver and his customer. Several autorickshaw drivers demanded the passenger cancel the ride, with one even attempting to smack the person recording the video.
The recording abruptly ends when someone hits the camera. In a follow-up post, the user expressed concerns about the daily harassment faced by riders and passengers using Uber or other app-based transportation.
