Meat seized in B'luru not dog's but sheep’s: FSSAI
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Quashing all rumours of dog meat being brought into Bengaluru, the commissioner of the Food Safety and Standards Authority(FSSAI) has confirmed that the meat brought in was of sheep.
On Friday, July 26, there were chaotic scenes outside both Yesvantpur Junction and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna(KSR) railway station after allegations by pro-Hindutva activists that 90 insulated boxes containing around 2,700 kg of 'dog meat' had been brought from Rajasthan in the guise of mutton.
They were reportedly led by cow vigilante Puneeth Kerehalli who was arrested for allegedly interfering in the functioning of government officials.
Former Member of Parliament from Mysuru-Kodagu parliamentary constituency Pratap Simha has protested against Kerehalli's arrest, alleging police brutality. Kerehalli has reportedly been booked in several criminal cases.
The High Court of Karnataka has however quashed the Goonda Act charges against him. Meanwhile, a DNA test conducted on Tuesday, July 30, has confirmed that the sample taken from the 50 grams of meat brought from Rajasthan is of Ovis Aries, commonly known as sheep.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao has also clarified on the same and has advised against spreading misinformation on the subject.
