Toll may cross 300, no oneleft to be saved: CM
Wayanad, Agencies: On Thursday, the Kerala government confirmed that "all those who are alive" in the landslide-hit villages have been rescued, with the death toll from Tues - d a y ' s tragedy expected to surpass 300. By Thursday noon, a few more bodies were recovered, bringing the official death toll to 177.
Additionally, 170 people are still missing, according to official data. Of the 177 confirmed deaths, 81 are men, 70 are women, and the rest are children.
So far, only 98 bodies have been identified. Rescue workers have also recovered 92 body parts, primarily from the Chaliyar river in Malappuram's Nilambur region. Officials reported that 252 post-mortems, including those of the body parts, have been conducted.
During a review meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the media that "all those who are alive have been saved in the last three days."
"It is assumed that no one is left to be saved in the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Attamala. Rescue workers are checking if anyone is stranded,'' he said.
