Mumbai's loss is Bengaluru's gain

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Zepto, a rapidly growing commerce startup, is planning to relocate its headquarters from Powai, Mumbai, to Sarjapur, Bengaluru, according to reports.

While the company already has an office in Bengaluru, it aims to consolidate its corporate roles into a larger facility, streamlining operations from multiple cities into one location.

Zepto plans to relocate all 1,700-1,800 employees, including its tech and product teams currently in Bengaluru and its business verticals in Mumbai.

The company will cover relocation costs for employees who choose to transfer to Bengaluru, with the move expected to incur a one-time expense of approximately Rs 3-4 crore.

The relocation is anticipated to save Zepto around Rs 40-50 lakh per month in rent due to the move from Mumbai to Bengaluru. The company will be giving up both its current offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru, consolidating its operations into a new 150,000 sq ft office in Bengaluru.

The new office is expected to be located in the Sarjapur, HSR or Bellandur areas of Bengaluru. Out of Zepto's total workforce, around 1,000 employees are based in Mumbai, 400 in Bengaluru, and around 300 are distributed across various locations managing city operations.

About 90 per cent of the employees in Mumbai are already willing to move to Bengaluru, with the remaining 10 per cent in discussions to relocate. If all goes as planned, only 5-7 per cent of the employees will be unable to move to Bengaluru.
