Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In an incident that highlights the dangers of online dealings, a 72-year-old doctor lost Rs 2.3 lakh) after falling victim to a video call scam.

The scam unfolded after the doctor received a call from an unknown woman on July 27, which quickly escalated into a series of events that left the senior citizen defrauded and distressed.

The doctor, unaware of the impending danger, answered a video call from the unknown woman. What began as a casual conversation soon turned into something sleazy, with the woman persuading the doctor to engage in inappropriate behaviour.

During the call, she coaxed him into stripping on camera, and he complied. The call was abruptly disconnected, leaving the doctor unaware of the trouble that awaited him. The next day, the real nightmare began. The doctor received a call from a man claiming to be a police officer.

The supposed officer informed him that his explicit videos had been leaked online and demanded that the doctor visit the police station. Sensing the doctor’s fear, the caller offered to help delete the videos for a fee.

The situation worsened when another man, posing as a YouTube employee, demanded Rs 41,500 to remove the videos.

Trusting the caller, the doctor transferred the money, hoping to resolve the issue. However, the doctor soon found himself trapped in an escalating fraud, before going to the cops for help.
