Bengaluru, Jan. 4 A bike ride to Manchanabele Dam, as part of his friend’s birthday celebrations, proved fatal for a 17-year-old. The bike, in which he was travelling along with two friends, got knocked down by a speeding lorry at Tavarekatte Cross on the Chunchanakuppe- Chandrappa Circle Road.

Chethan was riding the bike, with Hemanth and Yeshawanth on the pillion. A tipper lorry, which was coming in the opposite direction, collided head on with their bike. All three of them got thrown off. Hemanth died while being taken to the hospital.

The bike belonged to Chethan, a resident of Anjananagara in Bengaluru. The three friends left Chethan’s house at around 10.30 am, and the accident happened an hour later.

The tipper lorry has been seized and the driver arrested by the jurisdictional police. “Passersby who came to help the three victims called the 108 ambulance. While the three were rushed to the RR Nagar Hospital near Kengeri on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Road, Hemanth died en route. Chethan and Yeshawanth are undergoing treatment in the same hospital and their condition is said to be critical,” said a police officer.

The hospital had registered a medico legal case. The police rushed to the hospital to record the statements of one of the survivors. Chethan has filed a complaint, the officer added.
