Electronics City to be renamed after ex-CM Devaraj Urs
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday announced that Bengaluru’s Electronics City would be renamed after former CM Devaraj Urs.
He made the disclosure at a programme commemorating the 109th birth anniversary of Urs. The former CM had played a key role in the establishment of Electronics City by appointing RK Baliga as the first chairman and Managing Director of Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keonics) in 1976.
Baliga had a vision to turn Bengaluru into the “Silicon Valley of India”. Urs went on to lay the foundation stone for Electronics City in 1978 near Hosur Road.
