Man arrested for online fraud, Rs 25,000 seized

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A man has been arrested in connection with a fraudulent online payment scheme that defrauded a local shopkeeper. The incident came to light after a complaint was lodged at the Devanahalli police station.

The complainant, who runs Basaveshwar Enterprises near Kannamangala Gate bus stand, reported that an unknown individual had made a fake online payment of Rs 3,50,000 to his account and subsequently withdrew Rs 1,49,500 in cash.

This fraudulent transaction led to the filing of a case at the Devanahalli police station. Following the complaint, the Devanahalli police initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage for leads. On August 16, 2024, police apprehended a suspect near Vidhyaranyapura bus stand.

The arrested individual was found in possession of one mobile phone and Rs 25,000 in cash. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the fraud. The accused was presented before the Court and was remanded to judicial custody.

The successful investigation and arrest were achieved under the guidance of North East Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Sajeet AJ IPS, and led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Devanahalli, along with Police Inspector Dharma Gowda and his team.

The swift action by the Devanahalli police has been commended for effectively resolving the case.
