Police warns public against viral fake helpline message
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The police have issued a warning regarding a fake message circulating on social media, which claims that if individuals call a helpline number between 10 pm and 6 am, they will be provided with a ride home.
The message lists two phone numbers, 1091 and 7837019555, to create the illusion of authenticity. In response, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s office clarified on its official social media platforms that the message is false.
Citizens have been urged to disregard the message and contact 112 in case of any emergency. Authorities suspect the message may have been spread by cyber fraudsters attempting to trick people into calling the provided numbers, potentially to steal OTPs or other sensitive information.
The public is advised not to engage with the message and to remain cautious.
