Wild tusker enters tourism dept hotel in BR Hills, creates panic

A tusker that entered Mayur Hotel atop Biligiriranga temple tiger reserve, created panic among its staff late Saturday night in Chamarajanagar district. The staffers ran for safety following the incident. The incident has been captured on the CCTV camera. The tusker entered the hotel run by the Department of Tourism with footage of the jumbo walking on the premises after entering through the main gate of the hotel going viral.

The visuals also show hotel staff driving the jumbo back into the woods by shouting. No damage by the pachyderm has been reported. This is not the first time wild jumbos have visited human habitats after straying out of forests in this tourist pilgrimage spot. A few months back, a wild jumbo attacked a petty shop in BR Hills.

Fearstricken residents want forest department officials to initiate measures to stop wild animals straying out of the forest. The jumbos are frequenting human habitats in search of fodder and because of deforestation and encroachment of forests.
