Traditional puja to palace cannon performed at Mysuru Palace as part of Dasara festivities

NT Correspondent Mysuru: A traditional puja to the 11 palace cannons was performed in the iconic Amba Vilas Palace in the city as part of Dasara festivities on Thursday. A 21-round cannon salute will be offered before the commencement of the famed Jamboo Savari on Vijayadashami day on October 13. All the 14 jumbos that have arrived at Mysore Palace are undergoing training to take part in the Jamboo Savari procession which is an important part of the Dasara celebration.

They also need to be acclimatised to the booming sound of the cannons. Palace priest Prahlad Rao performed the customary puja to the cannons in the presence of Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar and Deputy Commissioner of Police N Mutturaj. The drill rehearsal sessions for Dasara will be held at a parking lot near Varaha gate of Mysore Palace. Along with the Dasara elephants, police horses will also take part in the cannon practice rehearsal.
