
Civic apathy? 11-yearold dies after BBMP ground gate collapses
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: In a shocking incident near Malleshwaram in the heart of the city, an 11-year-old boy lost his life after a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) playground gate fell on him on Sunday. According to the police, Niranjan, the son of Vijayakumar and Priya, was trying to open the gate to the Raja Shankara playground on Link Road to play when the incident happened. The gate collapsed on him, causing severe head injuries and massive bleeding.
Niranjan was rushed to KC General Hospital for treatment by local residents but however succumbed to his injuries. The boy is a fifth grader in a BBMP school. His father is an auto driver with the family staying in the pipeline area of Malleshwaram. Following the incident, an FIR was filed against the BBMP by the parents of the deceased boy under Section 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS) for death due to negligence.
An eyewitness described the scene and said a few children were playing cricket nearby when Niranjan arrived on his bicycle and tried to open the gate, which resulted in the structure falling on him. The eyewitness stated that they removed the gate and quickly took him to hospital, where he was found to have injuries no his head and ears.
