Patna: A day after security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday termed the incident regretful and asserted that responsibility for ensuring the safety of the PM rests with the states during his visits.
Nitish said Punjab government should have ensured strict enforcement of security protocol as per provisions during the prime minister’s visit. He said PM has to cancel his visit and return to New Delhi and called the incident worrisome, regretful and unfortunate. No laxity should be allowed in the safety of prime minister, he added.
Nitish said, “To ensure that such type of incident does not recur in the future, stern action should be taken against those who are found guilty of the security lapse during the PM’s visit to Punjab.”
Meanwhile, former Bihar deputy chief minister and BJP Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that Congress wanted to physically eliminate Prime Minister in the political vendetta and security breach was not mere a coincidence.
“Those who could not defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi politically have now gone to the extent of conspiring to kill him through their nexus with the country’s enemies,” Modi remarked.
