Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D.K. Shivakumar has appealed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to withdraw the restrictions imposed on tourists, hotels, restaurants, lodges and resorts in Ramanagara district during the week-end curfew citing the surge in Corona cases.
In a letter to the CM a copy of which was released to the media, Shivakumar said the deputy commissioner of Ramanagara, Dr Rakesh Kumar has restricted the visit of tourists to several tourism spots including Mekedatu till further orders. This would impact tourism, affect tourists and also result in a big loss to the state exchequer. The order restraining tourists has been made applicable to Ramanagar, Magadi, Channapatna and Kanakapura taluks. It would give a big jolt to tourism in the district.
According to sources, the Congress has booked rooms in all hotels, resorts and lodges to accommodate all those who participate in the proposed padayatra from Mekedatu to Bengaluru from January 9 to 19. In case of closure of these business establishments, it would be difficult to provide places of rest for the attendees. So, Shivakumar wants the government to withdraw the order so that no problem crops up during the week-end curfew.
