As a batting unit, we need to seize key moments: Dravid

India head coach Rahul Dravid echoed the sentiments of his namesake and stand-in captain KL Rahul by admitting that they need to bat “a bit better ” in the series - deciding third Test against South Africa.
“We have to certainly look to seize a few key moments and certainly when you get those partnerships, may be make them a little bit longer,” the coach said.
India head coach Rahul Dravid has said the team management will have conversations with Rishabh Pant over his shot selection, even as they continue backing his natural aggression with the bat. Pant was out for a duck in India’s second innings in Johannesburg, edging Kagiso Rabada behind after charging out of his crease.
Kohli expected to return for final Test
“Virat is feeling better already, he’s been in the nets last couple of days and he’s been fielding and running around on the field,” stand-in captain KL Rahul said after India’s seven-wicket loss on the fourth day. “I think he should be fine.”
Siraj doubtful for Cape Town Test
Dravid confirmed that fast bowler Mohammed Siraj hasn’t recovered from the hamstring injury sustained during the second Test and it can’t be said with certainty that he will be available for the final game starting in Cape Town from January 11.
Ashwin draws flak but Dravid explains the rationale
Starting the fourth afternoon’s proceedings with Ravichandran Ashwin did draw a lot of flak but the head coach defended the decision.
“As ball got wet (due to wet outfield), it was difficult for a spinner to get into the game. He (Ashwin) bowled a really good spell on the third day. The gamble was to try and give him the dry ball,” the coach explained.
Not having practice game isn’t an excuse
“We prepared as well as we could in these Covid situations and fact that we didn’t have a three-day game, …really dont have excuses apart from fact that we played well in first Test and SA outplayed us in this game,” Dravid said.
