North K'taka artists claim injustice in Mysuru Dasara awards

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: Concerns have been raised over the selection process for still films at this year's Mysuru Dasara Jambu Savari, with claims of neglect towards artists from North Karnataka. The Karnataka Civil Rights Awareness Committee held a press conference on this issue and referred to the absence of a portrait of Babu Jagjivan Ram in the display by the Adijambava Development Corporation. While speaking with News Trail, Committee President Narasimhaya noted that while many stills, including those depicting Karnataka poet Ranna and other cultural icons, were well-prepared and appreciated, North Karnataka’s contributions were overlooked. He criticized the selection criteria alleging that favoritism towards regions such as Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and Mysuru has led to a bias against North Karnataka artists. Narasimhaya highlighted the need for a fair evaluation process, stating that the current judging panel, composed primarily of individuals from Mysuru, has continued a trend of giving out award based on personal connections rather than merit. He urged the government to ensure that all districts are represented equitably.
