Woman defrauded of Rs 87,000 after downloading app at Bengaluru airport

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: A woman named Bhargavi Mani was defrauded of Rs 87,000 after downloading an app at Bengaluru airport. It was reported that before entering the airport lounge, she was advised to download an app called "Lounge Pass" for security purposes and scan her face. Although the app was installed, she did not use the lounge but went to a nearby coffee shop. Later, Bhargavi noticed that she was unable to receive phone calls, initially assuming it was due to network issues.

However, she started receiving calls from unknown people and found that Rs 87,000 had been transferred from her credit card to an unknown account through a payment app. After contacting the cyber crime department, Bhargavi claimed that her phone had been hacked by cybercriminals after downloading the app. It was explained that the hackers diverted her calls and used One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to transfer money from her account. Authorities cautioning the public about the risks of downloading unverified apps.
