Unprovoked attack on bus crew near Tannery Road: Driver & conductor hospitalised

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: An alarming incident took place near the Canara Bank bus stop on Tannery Road, involving a bus crew on a Yelahanka to Shivajinagar Bus Station (SBS) route on Saturday around 5:25 pm. The bus, driven by Gagan (privately hired) and managed by conductor Shivakumar, had paused to let passengers alight at the stop when two individuals on a twowheeler forced their way in through the front door. As per a statement by the BMTC, without any clear provocation, the intruders began verbally abusing and physically assaulting Gagan. Attempting to defuse the escalating situation, conductor Shivakumar intervened, questioning their actions. However, the attackers quickly redirected their aggression towards him, dragging him out of the bus and assaulting him on the street.

Both the driver and conductor sustained injuries during this altercation and were immediately transported to Bowring Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Following this violent episode, a formal police complaint was filed at KG Halli Police Station. The transit service issued a statement strongly condemning the attack, highlighting the importance of crew safety and expressing deep concern over the unprovoked violence faced by their employees. They emphasised their commitment to cooperate fully with law enforcement to ensure the assailants are held accountable for their actions. Further updates are expected as authorities conduct their investigation.
