Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said that he would discuss the possibility of making changes to the Shakti scheme. The scheme allows free travel for Karnataka domicile women in non-luxury government buses. It is one of the five much touted guarantee schemes of the State government. Shivakumar claimed that many women and girls were telling him via e-mails and posts on the social media site X (previously Twitter) that they didn’t want free travel, insisting that they could buy tickets. The Deputy CM added that he would discuss the suggestion with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. He made the remarks during the launch of 20 new Airavat Club Class luxury 2.0 buses.
