More than 40 cases lodged for illegal firecracker sales

On the occasion of Diwali, illegal sale and stockpiling of firecrackers were found, prompting the city police to take strict action. The police conducted extensive searches and have registered more than 40 cases so far. Cases have been filed against individuals found selling firecrackers in small shops, along roadsides, and illegally stockpiling them. The breakdown of cases is as follows: 10 in the North Division, 15 in the North- East Division, and 12 in the South Division, with investigations ongoing.

Applications for opening fireworks stores were invited online. Licenses to sell firecrackers were granted to 360 traders through a lottery system, with 76 designated locations across the city for legal sales. The city police have also issued a warning against selling firecrackers online. Police have cautioned that a case will be registered if any crackers are found being sold online.
