Bengalureans turn eager travellers, flock to global destinations

Bengalureans have increasingly become avid travellers, with many opting for international trips as part of their growing wanderlust. On the occasion of World Tourism Day, travel agencies across the city report a sharp rise in outbound tourism, with popular global destinations like Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East topping the list. The trend signifies a shift in the city's travel preferences, moving from domestic tourism to a more global exploration.

Industry experts attribute this surge to multiple factors such as increased connectivity through Kempegowda International Airport and an upsurge in disposable income among the city's working professionals. International travel packages are also becoming more affordable, making it easier for families and individuals to plan overseas vacations. "There has been a 30% rise in international bookings this year, with Europe and Southeast Asia being the most sought-after," says Praveen Kumar, a travel agent in the city. Tech-savvy Bengalureans are also inclined to travel for work and leisure, with 'work actions,' a blend of work and vacation gaining popularity. A significant number of travellers extend their business trips to explore foreign destinations. For instance, Singapore, Dubai, Bali and Vietnam have become prime spots for both business and leisure travel, a tour operator said. The city’s younger generation, in particular, is driven by the desire to explore new cultures, cuisines, and experiences.

Many are embracing eco-tourism, seeking out sustainable travel options that have minimal impact on the environment. "It’s no longer just about sightseeing; people want authentic, immersive experiences. A lot of my friends and I are now opting for trips that involve trekking, volunteering, or staying with local communities," shares Neha Sharma, a 26-year-old tech professional. Bengaluru’s travel landscape has evolved significantly over the past decade, with the city's residents now traveling more frequently than ever before. However, travel agencies advise travellers to be mindful of sustainable practices and respect local cultures to ensure responsible tourism. As World Tourism Day celebrates the power of travel in fostering cultural exchange and economic growth, Bengalureans continue to expand their horizons, contributing to the global tourism industry while nurturing their own love for exploration.
