The Karnataka Forest Department (KFD) on Tuesday filed an FIR against the producers of Kannada film “Toxic” starring actor Yash, for alleged felling “more than 100 trees” in the forest land near Hindustan Machines Tools (HMT) premises in Bengaluru. The General Managers of Canara Bank and HMT are also named in the FIR, reports said. This comes after Forest and Environment minister Eshwar Khandre’s inspection of the site near Peenya and the inspection of satellite images which shows the land being rendered barren.
“Hundreds of trees have been axed without permission under HMT’s jurisdiction, which is visible in satellite images. Cutting trees without permission is an punishable offence,” Khandre told mediapersons here. Announced in December 2023, “Toxic” is directed by Geetu Mohandas, and coproduced under the banner of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Reports suggest that the film will hit theatres by April next year. It was rumoured that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan will be inducted into the cast. However, an official announcement on this is yet to be made.
