AI can aide but can it help create timeless music, asks Kej

Grammy Award winning Indian- American composer Ricky Kej said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to enhance the power and reach of music but wondered aloud if it can create timeless art. Speaking as a panelist during the session “Lights, Camera & AI” at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2024 on Tuesday, Kej said: “Today, music platforms allow people to listen to tracks repeatedly, making them popular and trending. However, the question remains whether these songs will still be considered classics in the long run,” he said. “Content creation is often dictated by time, space, platform, and dissemination.

The real challenge lies in creating music that withstands the test of time,” he added. The session was moderated by Biren Ghose, Managing Director of Technicolor Group, who steered the discussion towards the future of creative industries powered by AI. Another panelist, Shobu Yarlagadda, CEO of Arka Media Works, highlighted the growing opportunities to make movies more engaging with the integration of technology. “Even though we have created successful films like Baahubali, we are yet to fully leverage the potential of AI in filmmaking,” he said.
