JD(S) candidate from Channapatna Nikhil Kumaraswamy on Sunday charged that dues under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme that had been pending for months was released to the bank accounts of beneficiaries a few days before the by-elections. Nikhil lost to Congress candidate CP Yogeshwar by a margin of 25,000 votes on Saturday. Gruha Lakshmi refers to Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for women head of households whose spouses aren’t taxpayers. “Dues of four months under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme were disbursed at the last moment. I would like to ask on technical grounds how it happened within 48 hours span (of the by-polls).
This money is of the government, it is our asset, it belongs to Kannadiga tax payers. They (Congress) didn’t pay it from their own pockets. How is it A collective effort by over 50 organisations in pushing use of paper, cloth bags as alternatives to plastic. the Gruha Lakshmi money wasn’t given for two months? We have ask this on technical grounds. The Election Commission is also very much responsible for this,” Nikhil told mediapersons in Channapatna taluk. The JD(S) Karnataka youth wing president also trained his guns on Yogeshwar for his remarks a day prior. The newly-elected Channapatna had said that JD(S) was breathing its last not just in Ramanagar district but in all of Old Mysuru region, adding that the regional party patriarch HD Devegowda had been rejected in the twilight of his career at 92 years of age.
“Mr Devegowda is not engaging in politics for the sake of power. His age is 92 years. Even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in different contexts that his (Devegowda’s) guidance was needed to build the state and the country. So he didn’t do politics to hold on to power,” Nikhil said.
