Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) state unit president Abdul Majeed on Sunday said that the two-day state representatives and officebearers convention of SDPI will be held at White Palace convention centre near Manipal Hospital on November 25 and 26 in the city.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that over 500 representatives including organizing secretaries and women office bearers from all 31 districts of the state are taking part in the convention. The inauguration of the convention will be held on Monday on 10.30 am. National Vice president of the party B M Kamble will inaugurate the event. State in charge Abdul Mazeed Faizi, national general secretary Ilyas Mohammed, national secretary Alphonso Franxo, state unit vice-president Devanur Puttananjaiah and general secretary Bhaskarprasad will talk on the occasion. During the two-day meet, the participants will deliberate on strengthening its party base across the state besides recent political developments affecting the interest of minority communities in the state. He also criticized the functioning style of state wakf board for not preventing the encroachments of its property, besides not initiating measures for its protection. Majeed took strong objection to opposition BJP leaders for politicizing the wakf property issue. The state Wakf board has issued notices to farmers and other people who have encroached in its land as a general procedure. But BJP and opposition leaders are politicizing the issue and misleading people, he asserted. If the land owners have their genuine land records, they can submit them and reclaim their properties, he said.
The land was provided to the Wakf Board by donors. People who are tilling and cultivating such land cannot claim land rights, he asserted. Both state and union governments led by the BJP have introduced various controversial laws against the interest of farmers, he said. Though farmers held a year-long protest across the Delhi- Haryana- Uttar Pradesh border, Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to protect their interests, he said.
He also condemned CM Siddaramaiah for withdrawing the order on issuing notices to those who have enrooached waqf land. District unit president of SDPI Rafath Khan, State committee member Amzad Khan and others were present.
