BBMP collects Rs4,284cr in property tax, most since origin

In the six month period where the One Time Settlement(OTS) Scheme was open, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) revealed it collected the highest amount of property tax, upto Rs.4284 crore. The deadline for the OTS ended on Saturday, November 30. The scheme avails defaulters to settle their arrears without paying interest and halving penalty charges. Despite a lukewarm response from property owners on the scheme, the BBMP states it’s in track to achieve the Rs.5,700 crore revenue by March next year. The Mahadevapura Zone remains at the top for paying the highest amount of taxes amongst eight zones of the BBMP. With Rs. 1148.35 crore being collected, this contributes almost one-third of the total revenue collected by the civic body. The East Zone with Rs. 710.31 crore followed by the South Zone with Rs.606.48 crore are the other top paying zones. The Dasarahalli zone collects the least amount, with Rs.136.2 crore. Almost 90 per cent of tax paid was via online gateways. Only Rs. 521.35 crore were collected through offline modes.
