An 11-year-old girl from Rajasthan, who had been suffering from white cataracts from birth in both eyes and had neglected her treatment, has regained her vision. This surgery was performed by Dr K.V. Ravishankar and Dr. Uma Ravishankar from Usha Kiran Eye Hospital in the city. According to Dr. Ravishankar, the child's eye surgery was supported by Chitra Venkatramani and her family from the city.
The parents of Reshma Banu, a girl who has experienced shaky eyes and poor vision since birth, sought assistance from the hospital upon learning that it provides free treatment for pediatric eye conditions. Dr. Ravishankar explained that she was born with cataracts in both eyes and has a slightly lower IQ. Her parents originate from Rajasthan and are currently reliant on small roadside businesses in Hunsur town of the district. “The parents are very poor and they approached us directly. We conducted the cataract surgery along with Foldable IOL implantation for the left eye. Similar surgical procedures will be done for the right eye at the earliest,” he explained.
