The fraudsters who called the complainant in October, pretended to be Mumbai Police officials and threatened the woman claiming Illegal activities and money laundering was being carried out in her name using another number. Later, the fraudsters who claimed to be CBI officials, reportedly told her that ''An FIR has been registered against you. We need to verify your bank account.
Please provide the details we have asked for.'' Accordingly, they obtained the complainant's bank account number and other details and transferred Rs 1.24 crore in stages, promising to transfer it back citing the investigation process. After two months, the complainant became suspicious and on an investigation realised that she had been scammed. A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station based on the complaint filed by the elderly woman.
