Bengaluru: BJP MLC CT Ravi called on party MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar Munirathna at the latter’s Bengaluru residence to express solidarity. Ravi said that Munirathna being pelted with an egg in Bengaluru on Wednesday was a part of a pattern in which the ruling Congress was harassing Opposition leaders. Munirathna had claimed that the egg was laced with some kind of chemical that burned his scalp and caused vomiting sensation. As many as three persons have been arrested in the case.
Ravi alleged that Congress workers trying to assault him in Belagavi on December 19 was a part of the same pattern. Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar had accused Ravi of using a slur against in the Council on the last day of the winter session. On the same day, Ravi had been detained and allegedly manhandled and mistreated by cops. The MLC said that it was unfortunate that the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi overseeing a session in Belagavi had coincided with alleged hooliganism by Congress. “They say they’ll make it (Karnataka) Gandhi state but are instead turning it into Goonda (hooligan) state. A fresh example of this is the assault on me and on him (Munirathna). This hooliganism won’t last long. I wanted to come here, talk to him and ask about his health,” Ravi said. Munirathna echoed these sentiments.
“CT Ravi called me over the phone right after I was assaulted. In a democracy, atrocities, oppression and hooliganism won’t last long. He told me they’re all with me. I have brought this (incident) to people at the Delhi level. I have let them know about the issues and events unfolding here. I’ve been told everyone in the party is with me and have asked me to be brave and that there is nothing,” he said. “They’re trying to snatch the rights of a lawmaker.
They’re plotting to keep a lawmaker out of his own constituency. This is probably the first time in the country that people are attempting to keep a lawmaker out of his own constituency. No one had done is before. Cases will be registered and will be taken to court,” he added.
